New Hunter CEO, John Alexander
As the world’s original fan company, it would be easy to rest on your laurels and bask in the gentle breezes of your famous Hunter fans. After all, when you invented the entire modern ceiling fan category, the record is pretty much yours for good. Hunter Fan Company was founded by John C. Hunter, the very first Hunter CEO, back in 1886, when he bought an interest in the Tuerk Water Meter Company in Syracuse, New York. There, he developed the first water-driven fans, and invented the ceiling fan. Two decades later, they developed a motor with General Electric, that is still in production today.
Now, after 125 years in business, Hunter Fan Company continues to be a leader and an innovator. The company grew even larger when it acquired Casablanca Fans in 1996, maintaining it as a separate company. In addition to ceiling fans, the company is also known for top-notch air purifiers, humidifiers, portable fans and thermostats. Hunter Fan Company has offices in three countries and is sold worldwide. With so much going on, Hunter Fan Company needed someone who knew a thing or two about consumer products. Enter new Hunter CEO, John Alexander.
Alexander was handed the reins by former Hunter CEO, Chuck Smith, a company veteran who served Hunter Fan Company for 14 years, serving as Hunter CEO for 6 of those years. Smith will transition to a senior advisory role on the board, making the handover to Alexander as seamless as possible. “My tenure with Hunter Fan Company has been a rewarding experience, and I appreciate the opportunity to lead the company and the hundreds of loyal and dedicated employees over the past six years,” said Mr. Smith. “My transition will ensure a seamless handoff, and allow me to pursue other interests after a successful tenure with Hunter.”
Fortunately, he is leaving Hunter Fan Company in capable, experienced hands. John Alexander brings a career’s worth of experience in consumer products to his new role as Hunter CEO. Alexander has held key senior management positions at well-established consumer brands, including Whirlpool and Diversey, a top provider of cleaning and hygiene products. Alexander’s experience in customer loyalty programs, new product introductions, and building stronger relationships with existing customers will serve him well in his new role as Hunter CEO.
Alexander looks forward to the challenge of serving as the new Hunter CEO. “I am very excited about joining an organization that has great brands and a leading reputation of innovation and quality in the market. Hunter has a great future and I look forward to being part of that over the long term.”
