Emerson ceiling fans have been America's best ceiling fan company for over a century. Emerson's sister company Emerson Motor Technology is the largest electric motor manufacturer in the world, making more than 340,000 motors a day.
Emerson Fan Company Leads the Electric Fan Motor Technology
Since the beginning of the ceiling fan industry, fan manufacturers would have to make their fans with taping copper windings to change the speeds of the ceiling fan. The taping of copper windings consisted of only energizing the primary and Ox windings of the copper wiring within the motor casing. Each ceiling fan motor had to have up to 30 lbs of copper wiring to facilitate the tapping, making a very heavy ceiling fan. Then about 20 years ago, Emerson Ceiling Fans invented the Fan Capacitor Speed Control and patented this new technology. This small device meant that there was no need for tapping windings, which meant the need for 30 lbs of copper wiring was no longer necessary. Emerson ceiling fan motors now use about 10 lbs of copper wiring instead of 30 lbs. This revolutionary ceiling fan technology put Emerson Fans in the lead. Emerson ceiling fans began selling these capacitors to other ceiling fan brands. Emerson Ceiling Fan motors were used in other ceiling fan companies until recent years. Emerson ceiling fans created the legendary K55 fan motor over a decade ago that is used in their best fan models. This motor was the first fan motor to use the flywheel stack motor technology used today by only these fan manufacturers: Fanimation fans, Casablanca fans and Tommy Bahama ceiling fans. Just three years ago, Emerson fans introduced the K55XL, which is an upgraded version of the K55 motor. The K55XL utilizes a 33% larger rotor than the previous model, the largest steel ball bearings in the industry ensuring quieter operation, and larger stack height to generate more fan torque, ultimately creating better air circulation.
