... begins at McMillan Electric Company located in Woodville, Wisconsin were the beefy ball bearing motors are specifically designed to fit in all of the
Matthews ceiling fans. The skeleton and sturdy stamped steel housings are made in San Palo, Brazil then shipped to the
Matthews Fan Company factory in Libertyville, Illinois. The solid Mahogany used for selected ceiling fan models is Ecologically Harvested in Rondonia, Brazil then shipped to the Matthews factory as well. Illinois is where this
contemporary ceiling fan product is assembled and tested before release to the public.
How Did Matthews Fan Company Start?
The USA based Matthews Fan Company’s first model the
Duplo Dinamico fan was inspired from the San Palo Brazil based company Gerbar Limited that started designing fans in 1963. Geraldo Barros began with the
Duplo Dinamico fan, specifically making this fan for high air movement in large industrial settings. Over the years the design and materials were perfected to make the Duplo Dinamico an artistic high performance residential fan.
The United States based entrepreneur Chuck Matthews has been good friends with Geraldo and Claudia Spina (the principles at Gerbar Limited in Brazil) for quite some time, enabling him to start the US Matthews Fan Company. Chuck Matthews started assembling the Duplo Dinamico in the root cellar of his Chicago, Illinois based apartment building. Matthews Fan Company’s first showroom was shared with
Tech Lighting, showing the Duplo Dinamico fan and a vast array of
contemporary lighting fixtures.
Matthews Fans Combines Forces with Tech Lighting
Greg Kay, the creator of
Tech Lighting lighting, mentioned to Chuck that their
contemporary pendants would look great suspended from the Duplo Dinamico and the
Vent Bettina ceiling fan models. This became the birth of
contemporary pendants coupled with a ceiling fan.
What Makes the Matthews Fan Products So Special
The beginning of this high quality product starts with the USA made 1/10th horsepower heavy duty motors that they are assembled with, making for the highest air moving fan on the
ceiling fan market.
Matthews fans are made with a high quality stamped steel and the bronzette, white and black are powder coated. The copper, brass, chrome and brushed nickel are plated in the same raw material.
What’s New for Matthews Fan Company?
Matthew fans have been on the cutting edge of power and creativity during all the changes in the ceiling fan industry. Chuck Matthews just released information that they will be adding uplighting to their fan models making them all
ceiling fan with uplighting in the late 2007 or early 2008. They will be converting the top of the motor canopy to an uplight housing. This housing will carry three hidden high-output candelabra bulbs and also have two visible original style Edison Carbon Filament light bulbs. This new addition will make the Matthews fans beyond unique for the
ceiling fan market.
The art glass lighting company
WPT Designs was started in 2004 as the sister company to Matthews ceiling fans. WPT Designs shares the same unique styles and applies them to wall art. Local glass artisan Dean Hunting is the inspiration behind the designs offered by WPT Designs. These new additions should keep the
Matthews Fan Company on the cutting edge for years to come.
