Jolted awake in the middle of the night!

Comments about Hunter 23849, Low Profile Plus Provencal Gold Flush Mount 42" Ceiling Fan with Light:
If you're looking for a bedroom fan, don't even think about Hunter. I bought the 52" model fan six months ago and only used it for a couple of months before turning it off for the winter. But spring is humid on the Gulf Coast so started using it again at night for sleeping. I always sleep with a ceiling fan on in warm months and use the chain to turn the light on and off. I live in the country so power outages -- usually just for a minute or two -- are not uncommon. They were never a problem until I had the Hunter fan installed. Unbeknownst to me, when there's a power outage with a Hunter fan that has a light fixture, the lights are wired to come on once power is restored. It doesn't matter if it's 10 o'clock in the morning, 3 o'clock in the afternoon or 2 o'clock in the morning. If there's a power outage, when power is restored, the lights on the fan will come on -- even though you only have the fan running with no lights! Imagine my joy of learning this at 2 a.m. when my electricity flashed on an off three times within an hour -- each time jolting me awake when the lights suddenly turned on. Finally I gave up on going back to sleep. Somewhere a village is missing its idiot. So I can either unscrew the light bulbs during the summer to use the fan only and have no overhead lighting -- or get a new fan that isn't wired idiotically.I wish I had been forewarned before purchasing this that Hunter fans are designed by incompetents -- but at least you won't have to make the same mistake as I did. ANYTHING BUT HUNTER.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
