Who Invented the Light Bulb?

In 1802, Sir Humphry Davy, an English physician, created the first electric light by passing a current through a platinum strip. However, the modern light bulb is the result of many innovators' work and continuous improvements over 150 years. The invention of the light bulb helped to establish social order after sundown, extended the workday well into the night, and allowed us to navigate and travel safely in the dark. Without the light bulb, there would be no nightlife. However, creating a steady and affordable source of illumination was not as easy as many history textbooks suggest.

Energy Saving Light Bulbs

According to Energy Star, more than 70 percent of sockets in America still contain the old, inefficient incandescent light bulbs. They’ve challenged America to change just 20 million light bulbs to energy efficient light bulbs such as LED light bulbs in 2014. Using light bulbs to save energy is extremely important to the environment and your energy costs. Not only will making this small switch save you money by reducing your monthly electricity bill, but it will also help reduce overall energy waste and light pollution which are detrimental to our planet.

What are the Best Light Bulb Types?

There are many different types of light bulbs, such as LED, halogen, fluorescent, incandescent, and HID. What light bulb type you choose really depends on the amount of lighting you want or need in a space. For instance, cooking requires an ample amount of light to ensure that you don’t burn your food or injure yourself, so installing halogen light bulbs in your kitchen will provide you bright, clean light. If you’re looking to illuminate a room where the mood fluctuates, like a dining room, you can always install dimmable incandescent light bulbs along with a light dimmer.

Which kinds of light bulbs do you typically find in wall sconces or open-bulb chandeliers? Most often, you will notice a type B bulb that resembles a candle flame’s shape. In the trade, you will find that people refer to them as candelabra or candle bulbs. Even here, there are some differences in the type B light bulb design. Some manufacturers add a bent tip to complete the illusion while others prefer to maintain the bulb in a standard bullet shape or blunt tip. These decorative light bulbs add something special to simple fixtures.

Choosing the Right Type B Bulb for Your Fixtures

A 60 Watt type B bulb would be too bright for most settings. As a result, manufacturers play around with the color temperature, which you might know as Kelvin. Therefore, you do not need a 40 Watt type B bulb when you can have a soft white light bulb instead that emits between 2,701 K and 3,000 K. If you prefer to dial it down a little, consider the installation of a warm white bulb instead. This type B lamp bulb brings 2,401 K to 2,700 K to your space.

Are you looking for ways to cut down on electricity use? In the past, doing so meant turning off incandescent light bulbs when not in use. However, the advent of energy efficient LED light bulbs and other technologies lets you enjoy all the brightness you want. Check out these light bulb types for use in your fixtures, including halogen, CFL, Edison, and more. These come with equipped with different filaments and lumens, and light fixtures can vary in wattage and lifespan alike.  Light bulb shape comes into play when considering power saving options and non-dimmable night lights are useful as well in the arena.  Candelabra light bulbs are usually Type B.  Whether you prefer compact bulbs, frosted bulbs or the 40w equivalent to a compact fluorescent light, most LED options use less energy and are equipped standard now-a-days on smart phones as a smart light.

Some lighting products that use this light bulb base type include the Minka Lavery Tilbury 3-Light Semi Flush Ceiling Light with candle light bulbs and E12 candelabra base, and ELK Asbury Semi Flush Mount Light with dimmable LED bulbs for energy savings.
